Indians are very prone to genetic diseases due to the high number of carriers of genetic diseases in the population. Scientists understand this has happened due to high consanguineous marriages or within small-sized communities in the country. Timely detection of carrier individuals helps them decide their future decisions better. However, Indians associate social stigma with such detection. Hence, it is important for more discussions to happen on how the current technology can help people, and not add to their problems by timely detection of the possibility of genetic diseases. The Gene-Health Connect Exhibition aims to inform young people about the problem and available solutions.
