Optical genome mapping - CCMB offers a new tool in genetic testing
CCMB is now offering a new method of genetic testing called Optical Genome Mapping, an imaging technique to detect genomic abnormalities. Dubbed “Next generation cytogenetics”, it is being adopted widely in clinical laboratories around the world because it offers a higher resolution over current molecular techniques and can detect a wide range of large genomic abnormalities in one shot.
In a nutshell, ultra high molecular weight DNA is extracted from a sample, fluorescent-labeled at specific locations throughout the genome and then imaged on an instrument followed by bioinformatic analysis. The entire workflow takes approximately a week and is hence useful for critical and timely diagnosis in a clinical setup.
This article describes the basis of the technology and its diagnostic utility in clinical cases at CCMB.

What are wildlife bioreserve banks? How do they function?
Wildlife bioreserve banks are repositories that store dead embryos or gametes of dead animals. These make it possible to assist in in vitro fertilization, when necessary and sometimes, even bring back animals from the brink of extinction. LaCONES-CCMB houses India's only wildlife bioreserve bank. Anusha Kiran Gudimella writes on how it functions and the opportunities ahead.

When writers and scientists meet
Writers from the Write Club Hyderbad met the tuberculosis researchers at CCMB, to write stories of science. Stay tuned to their stories in the coming months.
Milo CCMB - Creating newer opportunities
Milo CCMB is our special program for the Telangana Social and Tribal Welfare schools that happens across the state. For months, thousands of their students, thanks to their teachers, interact with our scientists online. And finally, a group of 25 is selected to come to CCMB for a week-long program loaded with hands-on experiments and activities.
CCMB celebrates One Week, One Lab
From Aug 1-5, CCMB has a line-up of events customized for undergraduate and postgraduate students of science, policymakers, wildlife officials, farmers and teachers. This is going to be a week of intense discussions on how our science and technology reaches more people and solve societal challenges more effectively.
