A story of synergy between lipids and proteins on cell membranes

Amitabha Chattopadhyay and his lab show that metabolic depletion of sphingolipids inhibits agonist-induced endocytosis of the serotonin1A receptor in a specific and reversible manner. These results further strengthen the crucial role of sphingolipids

in spatiotemporal regulation of GPCRs, a key class of proteins required in information transmission across cells.
What does lead exposure do to brain?
Chronic exposure to lead is related with many neurological problems. Recent study from Anant Patel's group studies its impact on glutamatergic and GABAergic neurons in mice, and find metabolism perturbed in these cells.
Ever seen bacteria under a microscope?
Check out the video to see how scientists look at bacteria under light and electron microscopes.
Learning from the experts
This CCMB Biologue, we met Janet Iwasa from The University of Utah, to discuss how animation is helping scientists discuss molecular machinery and processes with their peers and beyond.
Many congratulations to

Priyadarshini Sanyal, PhD student from Vinay Nandicoori's lab for her best poster award at the Biological Transactions - From Molecules to Organisms (BTMO 2023) conference, held at IISc from 18-21 Jan.
January has been a month for us to meet a lot of people on various occasions. If you haven't met us yet, keep an eye on our outreach programs.
Milo CCMB
In our last Milo CCMB interaction with Telangana Social and Tribal Welfare Schools, Harika spoke on the threatened yellow-throated bulbuls  of Deccan, and how they are good candidates to become a flagship species for the region.
Young Innovators of 2023
25 high-schoolers from Hyderabad and towns and villages around were selected for Young Innovators Program 2023 at CCMB. Their 10 days with us taught us how smart the Gen Z is, and how eager they are to know the possibilities in science and tech. Their feedback is an urge to the scientific community to have more such programs.

Bringing biology to chemistry camps
The three CSIR labs of Hyderabad - IICT, CCMB and NGRI conducted the Royal Society of Chemistry's students camps with 80 high schoolers across Telangana. While the RSC camps are famous for their hands-on chemistry experiments, this is the first time, we introduced a module on DNA in their list of activities.
CSIR-RSC partnership
Celebrating science, festival style
CCMB scientists went all out to explain their work and methodology of science at the India Science Fest 2023 at Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet. This was a first of a kind festival of science that happened in Hyderabad. If you are a Hyderabadi, would you like this to happen each year?
Science and policies - bringing the gap
With the 2022 batch of IAS officers at CCMB, we got a chance to discuss the capacities and capabilities of a research institute like CCMB. We believe society needs scientists, policymakers and administrators to come together and utilize the technologies at our hands for better good.
